“The 19th of May, 1780, was a remarkable dark day. Candles were lighted in many houses; the birds were silent and disappeared, and the fowls retired to roost. … A very general opinion prevailed, that the day of judgment was at hand.”
In the book, Our First Century, pgs. 89-90, R.M. Devens, the author, said this:
“Almost , if not altogether, alone as the mysterious and yet unexplainable phenomenon of its kind,…stands the dark day of May 19, 1780—a most unaccountable darkening of the whole visible heavens and atmosphere in New England.”
Moon Turned Into Blood
On the night of The Dark Day – May 19, 1780 – the moon became as red as blood. Milo Bostick in Stone’s History of Massachusettssays, “The moon which was at its full, had the appearance of blood.”
(This prophecy was also foretold in Joel 2: 31.)
Stars Fall From Heaven
It was on November 13, 1833, that for hours during the night, a great meteoric shower fell across all of North America. It is said to have been the most extensive and wonderful display of falling stars ever recorded.
The American journal of Science and Arts, 1834, stated:
“The morning of November 13, 1833, was rendered memorable by an exhibition of the phenomenon called SHOOTING STARS, which was probably more extensive and magnificent than any similar one hitherto recorded… Probably no celestial phenomenon has ever occurred in this country, since its first settlement, which was viewed with so much admiration and delight by one class of spectators, or with so much astonishment and fear by another class. For some time after the occurrence, the ‘meteoric phenomenon’ was the principle topic of conversation in every circle.”
Charles A. Young, a Princeton University professor of astronomy said:
“Probably the most remarkable of all the meteoric showers…was that of the Leonid. The number…was estimated as high as 2,000,000 an hour for five or six hours.”
What’s Next
The sixth seal’s fulfilled prophecies are written in verses 12 and 13 of Revelation 6. Earth is presently between verses 13 and 14. In this period, it is known that other events will take place; most notably the enforcement of the “mark of the beast” and the seven last plagues (the Great Tribulation).
From verses 14 through 17, is the prophecy of what happens upon the Lord’s second coming: the sky splitting open, a final earthquake that brings desolation upon the earth, and the terror of the unrepentant.
In Closing
Having revealed these things, the sixth seal poses a question: “For the great day of His wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand.”
In these present days – the time of the sixth seal – it would behoove all to take heed of the seal’s signs. Like the five seals before it, the prophecies are meant to be, and are, an exhibition of God’s mercy. All seven of the signs’ prophecies are warnings that call for repentance and a return to the Lord. Those who comply will stand!
