Christians should not be looking for signs and omens to direct their lives. This would even include the astrological horoscopes often found in the printed media. I know they seem like harmless, innocent fun; but they’re not.
Like all occult practices, astrology is an open door through which demonic forces can enter the practitioner’s life and gain a foothold. So, naturally, our so-called enlightened culture would present astrology as cotton candy. We must not forget, though, that this culture is ruled and persuaded by the Lord’s arch-enemy.
Seeking answers by indulging in astrology, even frivolously, courts the danger of worshiping supernatural entities other than God; even to the point of denying Him (Deuteronomy 4: 19; Job 31: 26-28). The path of astrology leads not toward God, but away from Him.
In Isaiah 47: 10-14, God sarcastically rebuked Israel for trusting in and practicing astrology.
“…For you have trusted in your wickedness…therefore evil shall come upon you…trouble shall fall upon you…let now the astrologers, the stargazers, and the monthly prognosticators stand up and save you from what shall come upon you. Behold, they shall be as stubble, the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame.”
Astrology is part of the family called the “magic arts.” Other family members are divination, fortune-telling, witchcraft, sorcery, spiritualism. These practicess are detestable, an abomination to the Lord (Deuteronomy 18: 10-12; 2 Kings 21: 6). Those who partake in these matters will not inherit heaven (Revelation 21: 8).
The children of God should have the same outlook, the same likes and dislikes as their Father (be ye perfect as God is perfect). They should seek to please Him by walking in His light, in which there is no shadow.
1 John 1: 6 says that if we say that we have fellowship with the Lord, but yet walk in darkness, we are liars. Astrology, no matter how playfully and brightly dressed, is darkness.
