Look Ahead

God has given us, in His image, the ability to somewhat simulate an ability of His, which is to know the end from the beginning. Though we aren’t omniscient, the fact is we can see possibilities, even probabilities. Looking ahead is an aid to help guide and keep us on the narrow path of righteousness.

It is good, then, to stop and take the time to think about our interactions with people; the places we frequent; the media input allowed into our minds, etc. There’s no dispute that doing so will crystalize different scenarios to which we could be headed. These, of course, then become choices.

These choices materialize so that we may alter our present situations, if necessary. God wants us to be wise and look ahead so that we may avoid both present and future temptation. It is good to foresee inevitable danger and not provide the circumstances for its occurrence. Looking ahead can also motivate us to exit currently engaged sin.

Otherwise, to proceed in life without looking ahead, is to not be in control. We will be as a city with crumbling walls, not being able to defend ourselves. We will be captured, bound, and blown about by whatever dark winds that blow into our lives.
