God’s promises will help us live the fullness of the Christian life. That’s why they have been placed in the founder of the faith. And even more encouraging is the fact that the promises aren’t about “yes” or “no.” In Jesus, they’re all the time about “yes” (2 Corinthians 1: 19, 20).
For every conceivable need or difficulty, there is a promise to cover it. Here are a few examples:
- Hebrews 13: 5 is for loneliness— “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
- Mark 11:25 is to help reject animosity towards others— “And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”
- Proverbs 3: 6 is for guidance— “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
- 1 Corinthians 10: 13 is for overcoming temptation— “… God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”
- John 14: 23 helps to live with righteousness— “If anyone loves Me, he will obey My teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”
This sampling gives an idea of just how powerfully rich the Christian life can be. With the resources available to us that group together all of God’s promises in one place – books and/or on-line – we can easily find a promise that fits our need. Then, by God’s grace, the thing to do is to surrender to any conditions that might be attached to the promise. After that we can then go to the Lord via prayer and ask Him to fulfill His promise.
2 Peter 1: 4 says that God’s promises are great and precious; that through them we may be partakers of the divine nature. Embracing His promises, then, is to be energized by his grace and power. That makes them a necessity to be regularly employed in every Christian life.
