Are Any Born Homosexual?

I heard a preacher answer the above title with an emphatic “No!” He said if it were true, that would mean that some kind of genetic defect existed. That, he explained, would then make it easy for homosexuals to say that they don’t need to change or control themselves because God made them that way.

They can say that, but that doesn’t make it true. God made a template for humankind. That template, which was perfectly good, allowed for the separation of male and female. After that, we all know that sin soon entered the world.

Upon that happening, all sorts of distortions took place; not only in nature, but in the perfect human template too. That indeed did cause genetic defects and mix-ups. So it shouldn’t be surprising that some of a gender are naturally attracted to the same gender.

So my answer is “Yes!” Some can be born homosexual. Born with a homosexual nature is part of the fabric of sin. Again, some will say that if that’s the case, they should not be condemned by God.

It’s true that God did allow sin to enter the world, as its season within eternity was inevitable.* But sin in any form, in any degree, is in opposition to God’s way of doing life. He hates the sin, but loves the sinner. So God placed in this world, righteousness and eternal life to stand alongside sin and eternal death. In this way, God fairly provides all of us with a free-will choice to engage in wickedness or godliness.

Behaving in accordance with a homosexual birth does not give the behavior an exemption. Admittedly though; because of being compelled by birth, it would be harder to change than someone with other sinful behaviors, especially acquired ones.  That comes across as unfair. After all, homosexual conduct, as a result of such birth, is only natural to the individual.

However, that’s the thing about the nature of sin. To whatever degree, any sin we engage in is natural to us. Moreover, sin-compelling behavior isn’t designed to be fair. Sin only seeks to destroy, however it can.

God seeks an everlasting life of righteousness for us. Therefore, He calls us to turn from sin. God calls for the homosexual to come out of that lifestyle, just as He calls the rest of us out of our sinful behaviors, whatever they may be.

Though it may be hard sometimes to change, life is based on choices. There’s no getting around it. It’s a reality that determines our eternal destiny. Therefore, if the homosexual chooses righteousness by accepting Jesus as Lord, I believe one of two things will happen. One is that the homosexual can be converted to heterosexuality. The other is that the homosexual can have his or her thoughts and feelings minimized; this done by submitting to God’s grace (power) to be able to abstain from homosexual activity.

That’s not a bad deal. In fact, being single and abstinent is a virtue, no matter what one’s sexual inclinations are (1 Corinthians 7: 32-35).
