The book of Revelation speaks of seven spirits of God. In 1: 4, the seven spirits are before the throne of God. In 3: 1, it’s said that Jesus has the seven spirits. In 4: 5, the seven spirits are linked with seven burning lamps before God’s throne. In 5: 6, the seven spirits are identified as the seven horns and seven eyes of the Lamb.
One interpretation is that the seven spirits are seven angelic beings. Another view, of which I agree, is that the seven spirits are symbolic of the whole of the Holy Spirit. I take this position because, biblically, the number seven refers to perfection and completion. Certainly, the Holy Spirit is that.
Moreover, I think my position is strengthened by a description of the Holy Spirit in Isaiah 11: 2. “The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him — the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.”
The Spirit of the Lord is the Holy Spirit. In six other ways He is described. He is one of wisdom; one of understanding; one of counsel; one of power; one of knowledge; and one of fearing (reverencing) the Lord.
