I will not be shaken nor torn from the belief in Jesus’ words. He said “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). That’s pretty clear. There aren’t any other roads or paths that truly lead to God.
So as a Christian, I cannot and will not accept other religious faith systems as legitimate. In that, I am intolerant. Bigoted. Narrow minded. Whatever the moral relativist wants to call me, I am fine with that.
The moral relativist is one who says that all religions are of equal merit; that each religion is basically the same. The problem with that is, like Christianity, all the differing religions make an exclusive claim.
For example, some religions teach almost endless reincarnation. That’s contrary to Christianity, which teaches that we are destined to die once. Both assertions can’t be true. Yet, in the moral relativist’s universe, both rightfully stand as truths. Huh?
I cannot tolerate nonsense. I will defend my faith and argue against other religions. I will not give any credence to them whatsoever. I will display my intolerance of religious falsehoods by simply preaching the gospel.
And, I think all Christians should feel and be this way. There shouldn’t be any compromising. Remember, we eat and breathe God’s Word that says Jesus died for our sins and was resurrected to help us overcome trials, tribulations, and present iniquities. God’s Word says that He is the world’s only savior. Period!
Having said that, I also think we do need to be mindful of how we say it. While we may voice our intolerance with other religious beliefs, by speaking the gospel, we do need to be respectful by tolerating the other person’s right to believe what they will. We are only against their position; not their personhood.
Never should we disparage another who is opposed to our belief. As we hold fast to Truth – the person Christ Jesus – we should be like Him, full of grace, speaking gently and respectfully.
