Jesus said that once we’re in heaven, we’ll be as the angels are in heaven. He was referring to the fact that angels don’t marry and aren’t given in marriage. The same will hold true for us (Matthew 22: 30). We’ll still be ourselves, recognizing each other, but apparently our relational existence in heaven will be different than here on this present earth.
Probably the reason for that is that earthly marriages are simply shadow illustrations of the one and only heavenly marriage. I’m basing that on Ephesians 5: 31. 32. It says, “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church.”
In other words, when a man and woman come together in marriage, it represents our coming together with Christ in heaven. At that time, there will be a wedding feast (Revelation 19: 9) celebrating Jesus as the Bridegroom and the church as His bride.
Once that happens, there won’t be a need for marital, shadow copies; for the ultimate, substantive realization of marriage will at that time be fulfilled.
And on top of that, because the number of people in heaven will be the number it’s supposed to be, there won’t even be a need to propagate, for no one will die.
And finally, as for pleasure, sexual desires will be gone; replaced by a different and higher gratifying enjoyment in the presence and love of God. That’s based on what we know now about the Lord, and particularly on 1 Corinthians 2: 9’s teasing that there are unimaginable delights to come that our eyes have not seen, our ears have not heard, our hearts have not received.
