At some point, I figured I would write something asking Christian women to consider how immodest dress can affect the spiritual condition of their brothers in Christ. Revealing skin in the wrong places does draw our attention.
I’m briefly writing about it now because of an article i just read, written by a woman. I’ll get to that in a moment.
But first, I have to say that we Christian men aren’t out to put all the blame on our Christian sisters. After all, they have the right to dress the way they see fit. And we men have an obligation and responsibility to not entertain lustful thoughts.
A lot of us have trained ourselves to bounce our eyes away so as to not let lust manifest itself; others of us haven’t. But why, for the love of God, put us through that?
We just ask you, our sisters, to please consider that immodest dress can be a stumbling block for us. Please know and understand that we are, by our carnal natures, strongly, visually-stimulated creatures, concerning the opposite sex. It’s bad enough dealing with suggestive apparel in the world. We certainly don’t want that distraction in the house of God.
Having said that, it’s obvious I’m assuming that women dress immodestly, solely to show off their bodies to men. Well, after reading the following article written by a woman, there is that element; but I’m surprised to learn that there is more to it than that.
The article below is written by a blogger named Jen Wilkin…
Recently I read an article written by a man addressing choice of dress among Christian women. What I read was a sensitive, well-presented plea for Christian women to consider the weaknesses of their spiritual brothers when choosing their clothes. Though many discussions of dress focus on “how short is too short” or “how low is too low,” this one avoided those legalistic pitfalls and took aim for the heart: what is your motive for choosing the clothes you choose?
